Viokase-V powder is prescribed to supplement your pet with the enzymes that are needed if they struggle with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, a condition where your pet’s body is unable to produce enough pancreatic enzymes to digest food properly. It may also be prescribed to treat acute and chronic pancreatitis.

Uses
Viokase-V is indicated as replacement therapy when the digestion of protein, carbohydrate and fat is inadequate due to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

Possible Side Effects
Diarrhea, cramping or vomiting has been reported in higher doses of Viokase-V. Mouth irritation may occur if the medication isn’t mixed well or allowed to rest. Some pets may experience an allergic reaction to Viokase-V if they’re allergic to any of the ingredients. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet appears ill in any way while taking Viokase-V.

Drug & Food Interactions
Consult your veterinarian before using Viokase with any other medications or supplements. Antacids, cimetidine and other histamine H2 receptor antagonists may interact or decrease the effectiveness of Viokase.

Precautions
In humans, inhaling the powder may cause an asthma attack or irritation to the lungs. Viokase-V can also cause skin irritation. Wash immediately if you get any on your skin or your pet’s skin. Always wash hands after handling this medication. Advise your veterinarian if your pet is allergic to pork.
