Your furry friend must have a current heartworm test result on file with your veterinarian in order to be prescribed heartworm medication. Please visit your veterinarian to have this test performed annually to protect your four-legged friend. Revolution is a medication that is applied directly on your furry friend’s skin to protect them from biting critters. When applied every 30 days, Revolution protects against heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. It’s also effective in preventing and treating roundworms and hookworms in kittens and sarcoptic mange and American dog tick infestations in puppies.

Uses
Revolution is formulated to kill adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. It is also indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations, prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the treatment and control of ear mite infestations. Revolution is also indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and for the control of tick infestations due to Dermacentor variabilis.

Possible Side Effects
In safety studies, Revolution was administered at 1, 3, 5, and 10 times the recommended dose to sixweek-old puppies, and no adverse reactions were observed. When tested for oral ingestion at the recommended topical dose in 5 to 8-month-old beagles, no adverse reactions were observed. In a topical safety study conducted with avermectinsensitive collies at 1, 3 and 5 times the recommended dose of Revolution, salivation was observed in all treatment groups. Revolution also was administered at 3 times the recommended dose to heartworm infected dogs, and no adverse effects were observed. If side effects do occur, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Drug & Food Interactions
The most common is hair loss at the site of application with or without inflammation (redness, flaking) in cats. Other side effects reported in cats and dogs include vomiting, diarrhea with or without blood, anorexia (decreased appetite), lethargy (sluggishness), salivation, rapid breathing, pruritus (itching), urticaria (welts, hives), erythema (skin redness), ataxia (incoordination), fever and rare instances of death. There have also been rare reports of seizures in dogs. If you have additional questions about possible side effects, talk to your veterinarian.

Precautions
Prior to administration of Revolution, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Revolution is not effective against adult D. immitis and, while the number of circulating microfilariae may decrease following treatment, Revolution is not effective for microfilariae clearance. Hypersensitivity reactions have not been observed in dogs with patent heartworm infections administered three times the recommended dose of Revolution. Higher doses were not tested. For use in animals only. Keep out of reach of children.
